Driver's Licence For Pets

How fun would it be if you could create a customized Driver's License for your pet? Not only would this be a great conversation starter but a fully functional Identification Card that could serve a useful purpose if your pet is ever lost. Well thanks to My Pet DMV you can make a special Identification Card with a picture of your pet and all your pet's stats like height, age, and even eye color.

I thought that making Bentley her very own Pet Driver's License was the perfect idea since I have misplaced her ID tag. I wanted something that would have her information on it in case she wandered off, which has happened a couple times.

One day last year I had a panic attack because someone left our back gate open and Bentley had gotten out. I searched for her around the neighborhood and even looked on Craigslist's lost and found and pets section to no avail. She was missing all night and I couldn't sleep. All sorts of thoughts were running through my mind. Was she hit by a car, taken to live with a new family, lost and scared? All that I kept thinking was that this is all my fault for not having made some new id tags. Maybe if I would have she would be back at home safe. The next day I went searching for her again and thankfully found her. She was at a neighbor's house around the block. They said that they had seen me walk Bentley before but they didn't know which house I lived in. After this incident I realized that ID tags are crucial and always need to be worn, you never know what can happen and our beloved pets are irreplaceable.

My Pet DMV gives you the option to upload any photo of your pet and it includes all of your pet's information such as: Phone number, address, sex, height, weight, date of birth, hair color, eye color, restrictions, and even a signature. They send you a Driver's License Identification Card and a key chain version so that you can put one on your pet's collar. Each ID features the same look of your State ID. Bentley has a California ID and it looks just like mine and I love it because I got to choose my favorite picture of Bentley!

We received our ID Card and tag in a couple days and I immediately put the tag on Bentley's collar. We then headed to the dog park and Bentley was definitely a hot topic. People would pet her and reach down to her ID tag and have a laugh. They all loved the fact that the tag looks like an actual Driver's License and featured her picture. I felt peace of mind knowing that if anything ever happens to her that at least there is a way to know where she lives.

Peacebone: The Smart Pup's Bone of Choice

We recently discovered a brand of All Natural Bones for Dogs that we just have to share with you because Bentley absolutely loves them! Peacebone is a company that creates a healthy option of dog treats. Each dog bone is hand picked and made with the finest USA farm raised beef sourced from local farms.

peacebone.png

Peacebone's founder James Hencken's vision is to create dog treats that aren't mass produced in mills or overseas where regulations are nearly nonexistent but to produce them in the USA using only quality ingredients. Having some experience farming,  James was able to find top quality and responsible farms that do not use antibiotics, GMOs, or any abusive measures towards their animals as well as being free range and that take good care of their animals.

"We set out to make our own bones for our own dogs that were of a higher quality than what we were able to find on the market. We succeeded. Peacebone was born through our desire to fill this demand for our fellow dog lovers; to offer this quality to our friends and loved ones, and now, on to you."

We Tried Out 3 Peacebones:

Read below to find out how all three different Peacebones stood up to the jaws and the palate of Bentley the Pit Bull and her friend Baguette the Frenchie.

First up to the challenge is the Bare Bone. This is their medium sized bone which is 4-6 inches long and filled with marrow. It is slow roasted and smoked to perfection and the perfect size for Bentley to munch on all day.

After giving Bentley the bone, she immediately took it to her favorite spot in the yard under an orange tree, plopped down on the ground, and started to chomp away. I didn't see her again until hours later so it's safe to say that she really enjoyed this bone. I think the marrow on the inside was the best part because she devoured it all and licked the inside of that bone clean. (You can really see the bone marrow packed in the center of the bone in the photo below)

The next bone we tried out was The Pacifier which is a bit smaller and "rounder" than the Bare Bone. It is actually a knee cap that has been slow roasted and hand trimmed. This particular bone has pieces falling off of it that are delightfully crispy and it actually smells pretty good in my opinion. On the actual packaging it states that "Each Peacebone is carefully crafted with love and guaranteed to make your dog's tail wag" and yes it does what it claims because the dog's tails were wagging!

This bone was actually hi-jacked by another dog. Funny story, we are curently dog sitting a French Bulldog named Baguette and let me tell you, this guy was all about this bone. He managed to take it away from Bentley and has been spending everyday gnawing at this thing. It's been almost a week and he's still going at it and enjoying every second of it as he licks and bites away in between his cute little Frenchie snorts. This one is definitely a hit for the little guy.

The last bone but surely not the least or the smallest is The Peacemaker and this bone doesn't disappoint.  It is the largest bone at 7-9 inches long and is the perfect size for a large dog to tote around in his or her mouth which is exactly what Bentley has been doing. This bone is actually a hind leg so imagine that.

As soon as I showed Bentley this huge bone her eyes widened and she did that ancy dance dogs do when they are excited and anxious. It's when they lift up their paws and step down over and over in anticipation. Dog owners should know exactly what I'm talking about. Well you could tell that she was super excited about this bone. When I gave it to her she was over the moon and carried this thing around in her mouth like it was a prize. She didn't want to put it down, she just pranced around the backyard with the bone, happy as a clam. As a matter of fact, every time I go into the backyard she runs to her bone just so she can carry it around in her mouth like a proud mother. It's quite endearing.

Final Thoughts:

It seems that both of the dogs loved the bones and so do I because they are not only affordable an long lasting but they help sustainable farms and are a healthier alternative than many other bones on the market because they were created with the dog and owner in mind. I will be getting more bones for Bentley to enjoy and I feel great about the fact that the animals used are treated without the use of antibiotics and with no harm done to the animals.

Peacebone's Worldview:

"We believe that, just like people, active dogs are healthy dogs. We are avid hikers, campers, and all around outdoorsy people. We aim to connect with our fellow nature enthusiasts, and we believe our products are the best option for those fixated on hitting the trails happy and healthy. Therefore, the products we are focusing on are developed to support this lifestyle. Our bones are the best campsite reward possible, and our easy to pack, freeze dried Trail Treats will give your dog the protection and nutrients they need to keep going. CBD Hemp Oil For Dogs

Disclosure: Irie CBD sent me a bottle of Hemp Oil For Animals to try out. This is my honest review based on my own dog's experience with the Hemp Oil. I am not a medical professional and I am not guaranteeing that you will have the same effects with this product.

Did you know that CBD Hemp Oil can be given to animals? I didn't know until I was introduced to Irie CBD's Organic Hemp Oil for Pets. Being intrigued about the health benefits and positive side effects this oil would have on my dog Bentley, I decided to do some research of my own. After reading many positive reviews and discovering all of the medical benefits of CBD, I decided to try the oil on Bentley and I will share my findings with you but first let's go over a few things.

What Exactly is CBD Hemp Oil?

CBD or Cannabidiol is a chemical compound found in Cannabis and Hemp. THC (tetrahydrocannibinol) and CBD are the most abundant chemical compounds to be found in these plants, however THC and CBD have different effects on the body.

CBD Hemp Oil is made from the Hemp plant, not the Cannabis plant. Hemp is usually high in CBD and low in THC which is typically the opposite with Cannabis plants.

Unlike THC, CBD is considered to be non-psychoactive, meaning that it will not get you high, making this a perfect medical alternative for those who do not wish to feel the psychoactive effects including paranoia and anxiety that may come with the use of THC, which is a concern for use on animals.

CBD has been shown to help with aggression disorders, noise phobias, canine dementia, and aids in relaxation in dogs along with many other medical benefits to help prolong your dog's life and aid with pain management in ailments such as Osteoarthritis.

"A survey study conducted by AHVMA has reported that 61.8% to 95% of pet owners have endorsed the health benefits of CBD-laced treats, ranging from ‘moderate to excellent’. Some of the medical conditions that were relieved by these edible treats include pain, nervous system problems, inflammation, anxiety, nausea and/or vomiting, digestive system problems, tumors, seizures/convulsions, skin problems and phobias, including fireworks or thunderstorm phobias." - MarijuanaTimes.org

Medical Benefits of CBD On Animals

  • Antiemetic - Reduces nausea and vomiting
  • Anticonvulsant - Suppresses seizure activity
  • Antipsychotic - Combats psychosis disorders
  • Anti-inflammatory - Combats inflammatory disorders
  • Anti-oxidant - Combats neurodegenerative disorders
  • Anti-tumoral/Anti-cancer - Combats tumor and cancer cells
  • Anxiolytic/Anti-depressant - Combats anxiety and depression disorders

Our Experience With Irie CBD Hemp Oil

Bentley suffers from dry skin and tends to become really nervous and hyper when we go on walks around the neighborhood. She also frightens easily and occasionally vomits. I wanted to see if Irie CBD Hemp Oil For Pets would help with any of these problems so I decided to give it a shot.

Day 1

The recommended dose is 1-2 drops for every 10 pounds so I decided to start off with 1 drop for every 10 pounds and ended up giving Bentley 7 drops of the oil. I waited about 30 minutes before taking Bentley on a walk so I could let the CBD take effect. Bentley usually becomes very hyper when we go for walks, which I am not particularly fond of since I like to take my 2 year old with us. This time I did notice a decrease in the amount of pulling and nervous energy while on our walk. Bentley seemed to be more calm, which is usually how she behaves after tiring herself out. This was a nice change and we were able to stroll around the neighborhood at a slower pace and enjoy the walk versus just dashing through it.

Day 5

It has now become a routine to give Bentley her daily drops and everyday I look forward to seeing the positive behavioral impact that the drops seem to have on her. She is all around more calm and more relaxed than usual and not so anxious when I leave the house.

Week 1

After a week on consistently giving Bentley 7 drops of CBD Hemp Oil daily I saw a difference in Bentley's behavior. She is sometimes skiddish when around men but she seemed to be less scared when I took her around some of my male friends. She appeared to be more confident around them and didn't frighten over quick movements, as she tends to do with some men. Our walks have also become more pleasant and less about rushing through the neighborhood so this is definitely a positive factor that I personally am able to enjoy.

Week 2

After 2 week of giving Bentley the drops I noticed that Bentley's coat seems more shiny than usual and is also less dry which means less itching on her part. She has a small patch of hair that is starting to grow back that she itched away. I tried everything to cure her dry skin but nothing seemed to be working so I'm excited to see a positive change in her skin and coat.

About Irie CBD Hemp Oil For Pets

Irie CBD Hemp Oil For Pets is 100% Organic and contains the following Ingredients: CBD Hemp Extract, Virgin Organic Hemp Seed Oil, Organic Vitamin E Oil, Fermented Cod Liver Oil, and Astaxanthin.

"Vitamin E Oil Extract acts as an anti-oxidant and natural preservative.

Fermented Cod Liver Oil was once a standard supplement in traditional European societies, helping to provide fat-soluble vitamins A and D, as well as omega 3 fatty acids in a bio – available and highly digestible format. All of these nutrients are important components to good health and are dependent on each other for proper assimilation.

Astaxanthin is a powerful, naturally occurring carotenoid pigment that's found in certain marine plants and animals. Often called "the king of the carotenoids," astaxanthin is recognized as being one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature. It is of particular significance, because unlike some other types of antioxidants, astaxanthin never becomes a pro-oxidant in the body so it can never cause harmful oxidation.  It is a super charged antioxidant, so it naturally reduces free radicals in the body. But besides that, it also significantly reduces the oxidative load in the body by protecting the cells against oxidation."

My Final Thoughts About CBD Hemp Oil

After using Irie CBD Hemp Oil For Pets for 2 weeks I can say that the effects of the CBD Hemp Oil have been positive and I am going to continue to give the drops to Bentley. I'm excited to see what other benefits will come from giving her the drops with the progression of time and her age.

I'm particularly fond of the idea of her skin problems being a thing of the past so I do hope that these drops are the cure-all for this condition. I am also delighted that our walks havebecome less strenuous and more relaxing so I also hope that this desired effect continues with use.

Overall I am pleased and I recommend that anyone that has a dog that suffers from medical conditions try CBD Hemp Oil and see the positive changes that this all natural alternative medicine can have on your pet.

Honest Pet Products Dog Toys (Plus Giveaway!)

Bentley, lucky girl that she is, just received a box full of beautiful dog toys from a company called Honest Pet Products and I couldn't wait to share my thoughts on these awesome toys so stick around if you would like an honest review and a chance at WINNING your own all natural dog toys in our GIVEAWAY!

Honest Pet Products was founded by Mary Wolff in 2010 and the concept behind the idea was to "make a difference" in the world in a way that truly mattered. Mary's idea to create eco-friendly pet toys emerged from playing with her own two Yorkies, Willie and Sophia. She realized how all of their toys eventually ended up in the trash bin and therefore in a landfill so she decided to design sustainable and durable dog toys that would last and Voila; Honest Pet Products was born.

The three basic principles of the company are simple :

  1. To be True to our Pets

  2. To be True to our Planet

  3. To be True to our People

The dog toys are made with all natural Hemp which is not only durable, it is also anti-microbial and anti-bacterial, and it doesn't rot so it will last alot longer than a plastic or synthetic fiber alternative. Hemp is also a biodegradable material which is the best part because it doesn't leave a carbon footprint and further pollute our precious mother earth.  Each dog toy is made by developmentally disabled adults in Green Bay, Wisconsin and the wool cat products are handcrafted by impoverished women in Mongolia.

When the mailman delivered Bentley's package I opened up the box, set it down, and let Bentley do her thing. The box was filled with an array of beautiful dog toys and the first one she gravitated towards was the "Eco Quacker", a large duck filled with organic wool that makes a chirping sound when you shake it that resembles a bird.

The first thing I noticed about these toys was the quality. The hemp is not only beautiful but makes for a very sturdy toy that proved it wasn't going to fall apart after a day of playing with it. Honestly the toys were so nice that I didn't even want to take them and damage them with play but after a full day of playing with the duck, it still looked good as new and I didn't baby it at all! If you have a large dog, especially a pit bull, you know how these guys love to play hard and how some toys don't last more than a day let alone more than five minutes. I tossed that duck all around our backyard until Bentley was too tired to play anymore.

On the second day Bentley reached for the "Eco Owl Buddy", which I think is absolutely adorable, and played with it by herself for a while. When she was done she decided to lay down with him and take a nap. I think it's safe to say she likes her new little owl friend very much!

On the third day, Bentley reached for the "Eco Fetchin Stick" so off we went to play with it. This time my daughter wanted to join in on the action, hence the fairy wings. After another fun filled day of dog play, the stick held together and I didn't have a bunch of pieces of "filling" all over my yard, as happens with other stuffed dog toys. You know what I mean, when it looks like a toy exploded and the guts are sprawled all over the place? Not this time though thank goodness!

After over a week of playing with these toys, I can say that I love them! I love the fact that they have not fallen apart and I don't have to clean up a mess of torn apart toy parts in my yard. I also enjoy the fact that they are eco friendly and made of natural products since Bentley carries them in her  mouth and my daughter handles them. I don't want toxic chemicals or products around my family and especially not Bentley mouth. I appreciate their beautiful design and the concept behind the company and the message that Mary Wolff is spreading with these toys.

I have decided to share my newfound love for Honest Pet Products by having a GIVEAWAY! Pet Portraits by Levi Morris- My Experience

Have you ever thought of getting a portrait of your pet? It is THE perfect way to commemorate your best friend. If you're anything like me then you know that pets aren't just pets, they are family and that we will always share a deep connection with them and carry them in our hearts. So just like you put up your family photos on display in your home, your pets are just as important to display. This is the reason why pet portraits are a great thing. The best part is that you can have your painting customized to your liking. You can choose the colors, sizing, props, preferred  picture, and pretty much anything else in between!

This is Levi Morris and his cute dog Cashew. He is the wonderful artist who painted a very special and meaningful painting of my dear Bentley. I will share with you my experience of having a custom pet painting done and my thoughts regarding the process.

My experience communicating with Levi was delightful. We communicated by email and he asked me my preferences and if I had a particular photo of Bentley that I would like to have painted. Eventually we settled with this photo of Bentley for him to recreate. It's a photo I took a while back with Bentley wearing a pearl necklace. It's simple but to me it represents the regal nature of Pit Bulls so it does have a strong significance for me. It shows how these dogs are so misunderstood because, like Bentley, they can be so calm and delicate, just like the pearls she's wearing around her neck. Pearls are found in the depths of the ocean, hidden away inside shells that must be found, opened, and polished. They are elegant and timeless, and special just like my Bentley!

I honestly thought it would take a few weeks for the painting to be completely so I patiently waited and to my shock, Levi emailed me not even a week later with the completed portrait. That's right, just 5 days later and the painting was done. He asked me if there were any changes that I would like to have made but I loved it. I received the painting 2 days later, so in total, it took a week to receive! The resemblance is truly amazing. It looks exactly like the photo. The shading and lighting are beautiful and it is such a joy to know that I will have this piece to commemorate Bentley for the rest of my life. I'm already imaging showing my grandchildren and telling them all about her.

So here are my final thoughts

1. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

2. Do you like the painting? I love it!

3. Would you recommend getting your pet painted? Well obviously, that's why I wrote this blog!
